THE NIGHT UNEXPECTEDLY UNFOLDS

AUTHOR POV:

Mr. Monroe welcomed them inside with a gentle smile, embracing Lila's father warmly. Meanwhile, Lila and Ace stood awkwardly beside their mothers, waiting for the cordial greetings to end. After what felt like an eternity, they made their way to the dining room. Lila entered, captivating everyone in a striking ruby-red dress that flirted just above her knees and set the evening’s tone. The fabric was a soft, stretchy blend that gracefully embraced her curves, blending sophistication with a hint of seduction. The daring sweetheart neckline highlighted her collarbone, framing her face perfectly and drawing attention to her expressive eyes, which betrayed a mix of confidence and simmering tension as they landed on her father’s best friend.

Delicate straps clung to her shoulders, exposing her neckline to the warm ambiance of the room, while the fitted waist accentuated her figure before the skirt flared lightly, allowing for an intriguing sway with each step. Every movement spoke of a quiet allure, with the hemline teasing glimpses of her toned legs as she navigated through the dining table with a fluid grace.

Her hair fell in soft, bouncy waves, cascading effortlessly down her back, adding to the aura of elegance she exuded.

LILA POV:

I sighed deeply, exhaustion weighing heavily on me. I had planned to sleep early, but my parents insisted on this dinner. I hadn’t admitted to my mother that I only got three hours of sleep after losing myself in a book; the last thing I needed was her lecturing me about my sleeping habits. So here I was, fighting sleep while drowsiness crept over me, grateful that my makeup concealed my fatigue.

As I glanced around, I caught Ace’s gaze awkwardly flickering to me, his expression revealing a hint of discomfort. My eyebrow arched in curiosity. He had been adjusting himself throughout dinner, which only added to the tension in the air.

I shook my head, returning to my food, hoping to ignore the heat of his stare. Just as I was finding my footing again, Victor spoke up, his voice directed sharply at Ace. “So, Ace, how's your perfect girlfriend?” I looked at him in disbelief.

“None of your business, Victor!” Ace retorted, his tone sharp.

Taking a deep breath, I knew Victor was trying to provoke Ace about his girlfriend, a topic laced with tension. I elbowed Victor gently in the ribs, hoping to deter him.

He turned to me, confusion etched on his face. Leaning in, I whispered, “Idiot, stop provoking him! He’s our father’s best friend son! And by the way, if you want to talk about girlfriends, maybe you should look at yours, who seems to have different partners every week!” My words came out harsher than intended, but I was determined to keep the evening pleasant for my father’s sake.

Seating myself back at the table, I adjusted my dress, which slipped slightly as I leaned towards Victor. I could sense Ace's breath hitch beside me, but I turned my attention back to my plate, trying to drown out the chaos around us.

ACE POV:

God, Lila was torturing me right now. The dress, her eyes, everything about her was irresistible tonight. I just hoped dinner would end soon because I could feel the pressure building up inside me, and it was becoming unbearable.

I had never experienced anything like this with Lisa; she never made me feel this way. I needed to regain control before anyone noticed what she was doing to me.

As the evening dragged on, my discomfort intensified. I thought about escaping her tantalizing presence, but then my mother announced, "Let’s move to the living room; we need some fun since we haven't seen each other in so long!" I cursed under my breath. My luck was terrible today.

I tried to sit as far away from Lila as possible, but of course, my mother had other ideas. She deliberately made Lila sit next to me. As we played some table games, I could barely focus. Lila was so close—close enough for me to catch the scent of her perfume and feel her warmth radiating. It was driving me insane.

As the night came to a close, we exchanged goodbyes, and I was thankful to finally escape. The moment I got into my car, relief flooded over me.

AUTHOR POV:

Ace was visibly distressed, having to endure the evening’s tension. He hurried home with his thoughts swirling in a chaotic mix as he finally returned to the sanctuary of his bathroom.

ACE POV:

Thank God it's over. I need a cold shower to cool off. “Good night, Mom!” I called out as I rushed to the bathroom. Turning the water on, I stepped under the cool spray, letting it cascade over my heated skin and throb between my legs.

For someone who looked so innocent, Lila sure knew how to drive a guy wild. With each passing second, the memories of her in that dress flooded my mind. I took deep breaths, trying to calm down as the water trickled over me, but images of her enticing figure kept dancing behind my eyes.

After a long fifteen minutes of battling my thoughts, I finally stepped out, wrapping a towel around my waist. I went through my night routine, my mind still racing with questions about the evening.

Returning to my room, I changed into sweatpants and a black shirt, trying to ground myself. I lay on my bed, tossing my hand over my eyes as I took a deep breath, pondering if this was going to be an everyday occurrence.

If Lila continued to dress like that, I’d be in serious trouble—like, actual trouble. If my teammates found out about my situation with her, I’d never hear the end of it.

Ugh, I just needed to sleep before my imagination went too far down the wrong path—and started conjuring images of her without that dress on.
